Copyright

Introduction

Congress is granted power "to promote the progress of science and useful Arts, by securing for limited tımes to authors and Inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries."

United States Constitution, Article I, Section 8

Copyright and protection of intellectual property are basic rights they are granted to U.S. citizens in Article 1 of the Constitution. As faculty, staff, and students are both copyright owners and users of copyrighted work, they are required to understand how to protect their own copyright and how to legally use works of others without becoming liable for copyright infringement penalties.
