Textbook Alternatives for Faculty

The traditional notion of a textbook is rapidly changing.  Today there are many options a faculty member can take to both save their students money and to improve their teaching options.  With a combination of ebooks, articles, course reserves, and open educational resources it is fast and easy to build a custom selection of readings and resources for your course!

• Course Reserves:  additional materials an instructor sets aside to be available for their class. These materials may be supplemental readings, the course textbook, a DVD or CD, or even a piece of equipment. Students come to the first floor service desk and request access to the item, and the service desk employee retrieves it and checks the material out to the student using their Mastodon ID Card. Once the loan period has ended or the student has finished with the material, they return it to the service desk.
• ebooks: Electronic books that can be linked direclty into Brightspace as either a main textbook or reading.
• Open Educational Resources (OER) and Textbooks: Free open access textbooks that can be used either as is or edited to meet your needs.
• Articles: Journal articles, conference proceedings and other similar works that can be used as part of readings and linked directly into Brightspace.
