What is a primary source?

A primary source is an original document; in literary studies the works of the authors themselves, their poems, novels, short stories, etc. are considered primary documents, but their other writings too, such as letters and diaries are also considered primary sources.

Primary Sources

These sources represent a selection of our library's holdings of primary source collections related to literature.  Many are from the Alexander Street Press and Chadwyck-Healey publishers and a complete listing of these collections can be located in the catalog.  See the Subject Librarian for English if you need assistance locating other primary sources in literature.
