Level Up Your Writing (and Public Speaking) at the PFW Writing Center!

A Writing Center Consultation in progressStruggling to get started on a paper? Want to make your presentation shine? Or maybe you just want a second set of eyes to make sure your ideas click—we’ve got you.

The Writing Center is your go-to, student-friendly space where trained peer consultants help you tackle writing and public speaking assignments for any PFW class (IUFW students, you’re invited too!). Whether you’re stuck on a blank page or polishing a final draft, we’re here to help you boost your skills and your confidence.

We meet in-person or online—whatever works best for you—to:

  • Brainstorm and organize your ideas
  • Strengthen your thesis and arguments
  • Make your writing clearer and easier to follow
  • Incorporate instructor or peer feedback
  • Cite your sources without the stress
  • And so much more!

Here’s the deal: we won’t “fix” your paper for you—but we will help you figure out what’s working, what’s not, and how to make your assignment stronger. Think of us as your academic hype team, ready to help you level up your writing and presentation game.

How our Writing Center Works

Appointments are virtual or in-person, 45 minutes long, and scheduled through Navigate. Be sure to have information about your assignment: the assignment sheet, due dates, notes, research, and/or any drafts or outlines. It's also great to think through what you'd like to talk about with the consultant ahead of time.

The Writing Center is using Navigate for appointment scheduling and availability. You can use the Navigate app, or go through goPFW to access Navigate and schedule your appointment!

Access Navigate

If you can't find an appointment time that works for you, we have the eConsult service: submit your consultation request through our online form and in about two or three business days we'll send it back to your PFW email address with our comments and suggestions. Find links to submit your eConsult request on the Online Assistance page of our website!

No matter how you request assistance, we'll write up a consultation summary to help you remember what was discussed in your consultation. That summary, as well as your appointment information, will be in Navigate so if your instructor has required the visit or will give you extra points for using our services, they can see you completed the requirement and the appointment information.

We're also available through our instant messaging system! At the left of each page on our website is a chat box that you can use to ask quick questions.

Hours

The Writing Center is open September 2 - December 12 for the Fall 2025 semester. Please check Navigate for up-to-date availability!

We will be closed for all campus holidays: Labor Day (Sept. 1), Fall Break (Oct. 20 - 21), and Thanksgiving Break (Nov. 26 - 30).

Our Policies

Because we have a limited number of staff but serve all courses on the Purdue Fort Wayne campus, we must enforce several policies:

  • You may schedule one appointment per day. If you schedule more than one appointment per day, the first appointment will be kept and the following appointments will be canceled.
  • You may schedule up to three appointments per week.
  • If you are more than 10 minutes late to a consultation, you may lose your appointment time; we will hold appointments for 10 minutes after the scheduled start time before assisting a walk-in.
  • Please do not overlap submissions to the eConsult service with in-person or virtual appointments for the same assignment.
  • Plan to have no more than 10 pages of text consulted on in a single appointment. (If the assignment is more than 10 pages long, please provide a 10-page range of text to focus on during the appointment.)
  • We do not provide transcription or dictation services.
  • We are not a drop-off proofreading or editing service.
