Reference Sources

Reference sources can be helpful (especially at the beginning of your research) by providing an overview or brief introduction to key concepts, people or events.

An e-reference collection from Oxford University Press. Includes the Oxford Companion to Comparative Politics, Oxford Companion to American Politics and the Oxford Companion to International Relations, among others.

An e-reference collection that covers a wide range of disciplines, topics, and publishers.

Investigates "hot" topics in the news and presents concise and well-balanced information from all sides of the issue. Each report is written by an experienced journalist and includes a "Pro/Con" segment, a chronology, and a bibliography. US focus with some coverage of international affairs.

Congressional Research Service (CRS) Reports
To find CRS reports, do a Google search for CRS and a policy issue, e.g. Google for: CRS immigration. These non-partisan reports are created by the Library of Congress' Congressional Research Service for members of Congress.
