It is the policy of the Helmke Library to honor the initial loan period for all library materials, both for Purdue University Fort Wayne users and for loans to other libraries through the Document Delivery Service. After an item is renewed, it will be subject to recall when requested by another user. Items needed for reserve are subject to immediate recall.

Procedures

The library will e-mail a recall message to the borrower the day after a recall is requested. An overdue notice will be e-mailed for material not returned within 10 days of the recall notice. Five days later, a second overdue message will be mailed that includes information about the recall policy.

The Overdue Notification Policy:

  • Purdue University Fort Wayne students, faculty, and staff will automatically be registered to receive e-mail notices via their official Purdue University Fort Wayne e-mail account. Users may choose to forward their Purdue University Fort Wayne e-mail to another account. Indiana residents are encouraged to provide an e-address when they apply for a library card.
  • The day after an item is due, a renewal reminder will be e-mailed, and blocked from checking out additional material. Borrowers without e-mail will not receive this courtesy reminder.
  • Purdue University Fort Wayne undergraduate and graduate students will be billed by the Bursar’s Office for unreturned library material. Non-students will be billed through the Comptroller’s Office.

Damaged Library Material:

Items that are damaged beyond repair will be assessed by the Preservation Librarian for an appropriate replacement fee.
